Our Day

The whole day was lovely and temperatures reached around 90 degrees F making it rather warm to say the least with no breeze.

Brighton has a lot to offer but do be aware it is pricey, not surprising really as it has always been affluent.

The Council needs to do something about the amount of seating available in the gardens, along the seafront and on the pier. There is a lack of seating that makes it hard for people to really enjoy the views of the sea and their beautiful gardens.

People sit on the grass as there are hardly any seats and those that are there seat three at most. So if you are unable to sit on the grass due to disabilities and the seats are all taken you simply move on. This is a shame as we would have loved to sit in the gardens for a while but could not as we are unable to sit on the grass due to our disabilities.

For the most part Brighton is reasonably Disability friendly  Disabled access
I say for the most part as the lack of seats means finding a cafe to have a rest rather than enjoying the sites.

Volks Electric Railway and Brighton Marina

I loved the little electric train it runs from the seafront to the Marina well almost to the Marina.

We were hoping to see the Marina but could not find it, a lack of signs made it impossible to find and with a rather long walk from the train we gave up.

This is what Marina is like though

The Lanes

Brighton is famous for many things and The Lanes is just one of them. An area that houses antique shops and hippy shops along with Choccywoccydoodah an amazing place that sells?  you guessed it chocolate and the most amazing cakes.

See what they make here

In The Lanes you will find all manner of shops and places to eat.

There seems to be a lot of Jewllery shops in the Lanes

There is no shortage of places to eat

Gardens and the Sea

Walk in towards the town and the seafront and you are met with beautiful gardens and architecture.

This beautiful fountain is a centre piece of the garden.

These flower beds are around the fountain

The flower beds are full and look very impressive.

The buildings that overlook the gardens are beautiful.

Further along you will come to the seafront

This is the entrance to Seaworld and a very nice restaurant The Harvester but sadly the air conditioning was not working making it very uncomfortable in there. In front of this building is the seafront.

The Brighton wheel is similar to the one in London with air conditioned capsules and costing £8 per person.

I took these photo's standing on the pier not a bad picture for a cell phone.

Brighton Pavilion and Museum

The Pavilion is a large building that looks impressive but when you think it was originally built for one person it is rather obscene as well.

The cost of going in to the Palace was rather expensive so we did not into the building.

This is the interior a wonderful display of opulence.

Can you imagine sitting here and devouring food like this

The gardens are lovely

Squirrels are used to people they even pose for a photo

Colin outside the Pavilion there was Graduation Ceremony going on when we were there.

The Museum and Art Gallery are well worth a visit being a lover of all things Ancient Egyptian I really enjoyed their display it was well thought out and informative.
I just wish the place was not so dark and so warm they need more lighting and air conditioning as it was very stuffy in there.

Displays of furniture are well planned out and some of the items are really beautiful.
Why museums seem to think low lighting in various displays make it more atmospheric is beyond me. I know some displays need to be protected from harsh lighting but today you can get lighting that is not going to harm things and allow people to walk around  and read labels easily. We left earlier than we would have as it was far too warm in there some air conditioning would have been nice.

Exploring Brighton

The journey to Brighton with Drury Coaches was as always smooth and punctual. A few hold ups on the motorway was soon forgotten as the traffic started to flow easily gain.
We arrived in Brighton parking up in Madeira Drive

Some of the architecture along the drive is really beautiful I loved the arches in particular.
The heads that can just be seen are of Neptune and Aphrodite.

The pier is long and full of amusement arcades sadly though not many seats so it is case of keep moving.

This site provides information about the pier and what it has to offer.
